Albertine Valley
The histiry of Oil exploration Uganda dates back more than a century, but it is ony recently that extensive investment in its development has been witnessed. Several causes for this delay exist including the war that made the target areas inaccessible. Out of the five areas of potential nameley, the Albertine Graben, Lake Kyoga basin, Hoima basin, Lake Wamala basin and the Moroto-Kadam basin, ground surveys identified the most prospective sedimentary basin to date as the Albertine Graben.

Potential
Though only in its preliminary stages, the region is already promising with projections of millions of barrels of oil in some areas and others having projected volumes of upto billions of barrels of oil. It is still not very clear however how much of this oil may be recovered.

Logistics impact
The Albertine Graben is located in the western part of the country, mainly in Masindi, Kibale and Hoima district around Lake Albert which forms the northernmost part of the western arm of the East African Rift Valley. This means that to get the required drilling, craning, support and other equipment to the site, a lot of logistics support is required to clear the above at the port town of Mombasa in neighbouring Kenya, transport the oftenly bulky cargo accross both countries, with the associated clearance and verification at the border of the two and offloading and installing the equipment at the site.
